Gotta Set Goals

I’m so scared as to what’s to come.  This is the most challenging obstacle I’ve ever had to overcome.  I know I can do it.  I just never thought I’d be in this position.  Dependent on others and most importantly, dependent on my own immune system to revive itself and make me better.  I know I need to stay positive and stay around positive people.  I am going to make sure that I set and achieve goals during this journey.  So here are some of the goals I am going to try and fulfill:

  • Learn Spanish
  • Keep a journal of this journey
  • Keep in shape (Today I was at 25 push ups – but sit ups and some Insanity moves)
  • Eat healthy
  • Read (Lance Armstrong’s books, the books I brought with me and whatever info I can find online)
  • Keep up with what’s gong on with the Victory Funds
  • Be a better friend, husband, son and overall person

These are some lofty goals and I know that they be difficult, especially while undergoing chemotherapy, but there’s no way I’m just going to sit in this bed and feel sorry for myself.

  1. You couldn't possibly be a better friend! It's people like you that make people like me strive to be better. If anyone can kick this bullshit, it's you. I know it, you know it and the Big C knows it. She's a running scared my friend! You keep your head high and know that you are not, nor never will be, alone in this!
    I love you, man!

  2. Your Goals are Great! You inspire me by your willingness to share this deeply personal journey.
Your the kind of son a mother wishes for Zach!
    Loving, Hardworking, Positive, Open-minded, Caring....
    Let's practice Spanish together.
I started to learn it by reading the labels on bottles of Laundry Detergent...
    Shocking huh?
    Example: Large loads....lavadas grandes.
Sending lots of Love-see you soon.

  3. Zach, didn't you just take a few weeks off for a honeymoon? Now another 3 or 4 weeks, eh? Love your timing... So let's take a look at the goals, cause these will be key to you kicking the $%^@ out of this, along with your irrepressible positive demeanor, and the love and support which you mention through out the blog.

Learn Spanish-- no problema! See your reading Spanish already!
Keep a journal of this journey-- wonderful idea, a great way to keep track of progress you will make gaining on this thing day by day. (very helpful for all of us who are pulling for you as well...)
Keep in shape (Today I was at 25 push ups – but sit ups and some Insanity moves)-- You and P90X, a winning combination!
Eat healthy -- tough one, you're in the hospital, Dude. Maybe Donna and Rob can help out here...
Read (Lance Armstrong’s books, the books I brought with me and whatever info I can find online)-- Yup, its all in the mind. Let Lance and many others help inspire you. If he can do it, you can do it.
Keep up with what’s gong on with the Victory Funds-- I admire your dedication here my friend. You talking about the stuff that goes on in the office, right? (not the actual performance of the funds...:)!
Be a better friend, husband, son and overall -- Well, Zach, I am afraid we might have come across an impossible goal. Not sure how you can do much better here. At the ripe old age of however old you actually are, you should take great satisfaction in knowing that you are "universally recoginzed" as a wonderful person, a role model for anyone interested living a good and meaningful life and / or being a better person. In the opinion of just this one blog commenter, it all starts with your selflesssness, and the sincere interest you have in the thoughts and ideas of everyone you meet. You are the embodiment of positivity, and people react to it, Zach. It's powerful. Let us all help you keep it strong. The team in FL and NC and NY are with you all the way. We will see you soon, Zack!
